Tonga Baskets

Our baskets are produced by Tonga women in the Northern part of Zimbabwe. Mrs. Mudimba and her neighbours are basket weavers and have learned the tradionel basket weaving technique of thier mothers and aunts. The baskets are unique in size, weaving and use of traditional patterns. The baskets are made of Ilala palm and the patterns reflects the nature and living in this dry and unfertile end of Zimbabwe.

Binga Craft Centre organises the production in the womens groups, do the quality controls, have workshops on different localities, organises the replanting of the ilala palms, the prime material of basket production.
