About House by the Sea
“House by the Sea” is Fair Trade certified import of a wide range of products from Southern Africa. We do fairly traded hand crafted products which reflects the strenght of African colour and design, desirable for Scandinavian indoor decoration and homes. We whole sale, retail and web sale. Our product range are pottery, sandblasted recycled glass, hand decorated cotton textiles, beautiful handbags in Springbuk Skin and other skins, ilala palm baskets, Cane furniture, recycled metal sculptures, painted wood sculptures and Shona stone sculptures. The products are distributed to 25 shops in Denmark and Norway and Sweden.
"House by the Sea" is a member of Fair Trade Danmark, a member of the International Fair Trade Association, IFAT.
Social responsibility, cultural sensitivity and sustainable trading relations are important elements for development of the trading cooperation. We have close contact to our long term producers and visit them every year when we evaluate the products and discuss future ideas and buy new stock. Part of the visits have character of capacity building within the organisation, such as marketing, sales, IT and health issues.
We send containers to Denmark twice a year and small consignments are send by air freight. Our producers are placed in Zimbabwe, South Africa, Malawi and Zambia.
